09:30-12:45 Workshop Developing a Successful Freelance Practice Sponsored by the Freelance Dietitians Group
Chair: Hilary Du Cane
Freelance Dietitian and Chartered Marketer, Marketing Menu Ltd
Guest Speaker: Robin Johnson
Managing Director, OvationXL
Starting out as a freelancer is one thing; keeping it going and making a living out of it long-term is another challenge altogether, or rather a series of challenges. Yet freelancing is now clearly in the mainstream with around 1.4m individual freelancers in the UK today, earning average annual fees of around £60,000 and jointly contributing a whopping £82bn to GDP. In surveys, freelancers are found to be happier than employees. But how is it for you? Are you getting enough work? Do you feel you really are in control of your day? Are you proactive about seeking clients and maintaining relationships with them? Are you making the most of your down-time, that is times when you're not doing fee-earning work? Are you struggling to find cost-effective ways to promote your practice and finding networking online is simply eating away at your day? This workshop is an opportunity to find out whether you are indeed 'fit to freelance' and to develop the skills you need to achieve real and lasting success as a freelancer.
The Freelance Dietitians' sponsored workshop has long been a highlight of the Nutrition & Health conference. One delighted delegate said 'I've had a great day and it all started with your workshop! Thank you so much. Not to be missed
PROFILE: ROBIN JOHNSON
Robin ran a multi-million pound branding and corporate communications business for 18 years before selling it during the dot-com madness of 2000. His most notorious client was Enron that collapsed right in the middle of the sale. Jobless for the first time in his life, a friendly counsellor suggested 'business performance coaching' might be a new career worth considering. After three years of intense re-training Robin launched his new business OvationXL that began coaching partners in law firms up and down the UK. After ten years, he coaches a broad range of professionals from diverse business sectors including financial services, IT, food, boutique hotels, stately homes, steel, manufacturing, engineering and helicopters. He also coaches headmasters, headmistresses, other senior staff and the prefects of some of the UK's most famous public schools. Robin helps individuals become measurably more successful in their careers and... to be happier. Outside of work Robin is an eco-warrior. He recently built his own eco house in the depths of the Northamptonshire countryside. He is a Trustee of two charities.
