DIRECTIONS FOR THE CONTRIBUTORS OF ABSTRACTS FOR THE POSTER SESSIONS

Submission
We now welcome submissions for the poster sessions at the 8th Nutrition and Health Conference 2007 on topics related to Nutrition and Health.

Please email your abstract submission to: or by post to Nutrition and Health Conference, 26 Hill Top, London, NW11 6EE, sending 2 copies. One should be anonymised and the other should have your contact details, even for email purposes.

Acceptance
All abstracts will be selected by a panel before being accepted for presentation at the poster session of this conference. The poster session will have two sections this year A) Practice Posters B) Research Posters.

We encourage all health professionals, students and researchers to present their work and best practice examples to their peers for review and comment. We wish to foster a culture of enquiry and scientific rigour while at the same time, recognising that sometimes, examples of good practice, whilst not subjected to rigorous research, may also have much to offer. We therefore invite you to submit projects of interest which have not been the subject of a formal research process to the “Practice poster” category The following criteria will be used to select abstracts for the poster session.

Process
Each abstract will be assessed against the relevant criteria

set out below.

A) Criterion for Research Posters

Criterion
Scientific excellence: study methods described, including sample size, controls etc or of a program then clearly described why this is being presented.

Standard of research including: hypotheses, analytical techniques appropriate for the type of study- quantitative/qualitative, results etc.
Innovation in practice relevant to nutrition & dietetics.
New information presented which is relevant to nutrition and dietetics.
Data/evidence clearly presented and accurate.
Written text clear, abbreviations correct, format, length etc compliant with requirement.
Conclusion is supported by evidence presented.

A) Criterion for Practice Posters

Criterion
Rationale (i.e. what was the basis for this particular project, or
the reason why the practice being shared was developed)
Process - this should be akin to methods in the research category.
Has the abstract described what was done in sufficient detail to give
the reader an idea of what this practice/project involved - and does
this process seem appropriate to the rationale (i.e. does it meet the goal?)

If there has been any evaluation of the practice/project is this
described and accurately reported? Sometimes work isn't the subject of
formal research but there may be some process of evaluation or maybe small
amounts of audit type data that could be usefully presented.
Potential for transfer/generalisabilty - although this doesn't
constitute an evidence base and therefore suggest practice ought to be changed on this basis sometimes something looks like such a good idea that it would be worth trying in other areas or appears intuitively to be worth generalising. Alternatively it may be very specialist and therefore not so generalisable but should show such flair and innovation that
it inspires people to take a creative approach in their own area of work and credit should be given for this.

Data/evidence clearly presented and accurate.
Written text clear, abbreviations correct, format, length etc compliant with requirement.
Conclusion is supported by evidence presented.

Closing date for submissions is 20th October 2007.

Authors will be notified of acceptance by the 1st week of November 2007.

Abstracts accepted for the poster sessions may be published in the conference text book: Nutrition and Health - Current Topics 8, to be published in 2008.

All accepted abstracts will be considered for the Nutrition and Health Poster Awards 2007.

1. The Best Practice Poster Abstract Award
2. The Best Research Poster Abstract Award

The winners will be invited to give an oral presentation in the main session of the 8th Nutrition and Health Conference.
